Today, we covered a slide on genre study. We learned how certain characteristics of a mise-en-scene gives clues as to what genre a film is. However, certain films can use this to trick the audience into thinking it's another genre. This is one way to challenge the convention. We also learned how time has impacted conventions in films. For example, for superhero movies, nowadays there is more comedic relief, darker and more intricate costumes and more complex narratives.
